2nd LD Writethru: "Make in India" cultural extravaganza catches fire

Xinhua, February 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

A huge fire broke out Sunday evening at a cultural extravaganza for "Make in India Week" business forum in the Indian financial hub Mumbai, burning down a whole stage, said officials.

So far there have been no reports of casualties, but witnesses described the inferno as very bad and spreading fast.

The blaze broke out during a Lavani performance at the mega event at Girgaum, the Bombay (Mumbai) municipal Council Disaster Control told the media.

Governor C.V. Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra, where Mumbai is the state capital, as well as movie stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan were shifted to safer places.

At least 14 fire tenders were rushed to the site where the stage was totally gutted.

About 20,000 to 25,000 people were at the site when the fire broke out. Enditem
