Ghana police grab prime suspect in legislator's murder

Ghana police nabbed here on Thursday the prime suspect in the murder of the Member of Parliament for Abuakwah North, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, a police source told Xinhua Thursday.

The suspect, whose name was not given, was apprehended when he took a phone supposedly belonging to the victim to a phone repairer for unlocking at Agbogbloshie, a slum near the Central Business District in the capital.

The repairer, who saw a picture of the slain MP with former President John Agyekum Kufuor on the phone, informed the police who laid ambush and arrested the suspect.

According to the police source, three mobile phones were retrieved from the suspect, an ex-convict, two of which had been confirmed to belong to the late MP, with the third phone having a password protection.

Beside the suspect, who is said to have confessed to police interrogators of having stabbed the late MP, two other suspects have been picked up by the police for interrogation, while an order was said to have been issued for the arrest of some unnamed people in connection with the murder.

The late Adu was found in a pool of blood in the early hours of Tuesday after his wife and domestic staff had called the police to report of unusual activity in his bedroom.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Police Hospital, causing parliament to suspend seating on Tuesday in solidarity with their fellow member.

The Police have promised a 10,000 Ghana cedis or 2,600 dollars reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the murderer. Endit
