Pakistan's Musharraf hospitalized after complications in breathing: spokesperson

Xinhua, February 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf was hospitalized at a hospital in Karachi after he had problems in breathing on Thursday, spokesman for his political party said.

Asia Ishaque, spokesman for All Pakistan Muslim League, told the media that Pervez Musharraf was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Pakistan Navy al-Shifa Hospital.

She said she was with Musharraf at his residence when he felt some problems in breathing.

The spokesperson denied media reports that the former president had either felt chest pain or blood pressure.

She also released a photograph of Pervez Musharraf while he was lying on a bed at emergency ward.

"Pervez Musharraf is now in stable condition and that doctors are being consulted."

Musharraf had resigned as president in 2008 to avoid impeachment by the parliament. He had then went into exile.

The former president returned to Pakistan in 2013 to take part in parliamentary elections. However, courts had disqualified him for holding any public office because of abrogation of the constitution.

Musharraf had dismissed the gov't of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999. He faces several cases including high treason and murder of the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Enditem
