4th Palestinian death caused by H1N1 virus

Xinhua, February 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Palestinian Health Ministry announced Thursday that another Palestinian infected with the H1N1 virus had died.

This raised the number of deaths in the West Bank from the H1N1 virus to four since the beginning of 2016; a total of 355 cases were registered.

Early cases of the H1N1 virus were discovered in the West Bank in 2010, when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the disease was no longer an epidemic, but rather a seasonal flu.

The ministry's media director, Tareef Ashour, said that a 58 year-old citizen died at Nablus's public hospital after suffering from breathing problems caused by the virus.

Ashour stated that the ministry provides free treatment for the H1N1 virus and is prepared with the necessary medications.

The ministry had announced that a 40-year-old Palestinian died from the virus Tuesday, the third case since the beginning of the year.

The WHO said that the virus causes serious complications if not treated early, and kills individuals with weak immune systems. Endit
