Republican Carly Fiorina ends White House bid

Xinhua, February 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former chairwoman of Hewlett-Packard Carly Fiorina on Wednesday suspended her presidential canmpaign in the wake of poor performance in the first two Republican nomination contests.

"This campaign was always about citizenship- taking back our country from a political class that only serves the big, the powerful, the wealthy, and the well connected," said Fiorina in a statement.

"I will continue to serve in order to restore citizen government to this great nation so that together we may fulfill our potential," said the statement.

The only woman in the crowded Republican field, Fiorina entered the race last year as the Republican answer to Democrat Hillary Clinton and had attacked Clinton aggressively since the very beginning of her candidacy.

Fiorina finished a distant seventh in Tuesday's primary in New Hampshire, winning merely 4.1 percent of the vote. In the Iowa caucuses held on Feb. 1, she also got only 2 prcent vote.

Meanwhile, according to the U.S. daily New York Times, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had told allies that he planed to suspend his campaign after coming in sixth in the New Hampshire primary. Enditem
