NATO, EU enhance cyber defense cooperation

NATO and the European Union (EU) on Wednesday concluded a technical arrangement to enhance cyber defense cooperation.

NATO said in a press release that the cooperation will help both organizations better address the challenges of cyber attacks as they face similar challenges in protecting their networks against the growing threat of cyber attacks.

The arrangement was signed between the NATO Computer Incident Response Capability and the Computer Emergency Response Team of the EU, which provides a framework for exchanging information and sharing best practices between emergency response teams.

The aim of the arrangement is to enhance the cyber defenses of both organizations by exchanging cyber defense-related data.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated, "Our emergency response teams will have a structured framework for exchanging information and sharing best practices. This is a concrete example of NATO and the EU working together to counter hybrid threats."

"Intensified cooperation under this arrangement will allow us in a tangible way to better prevent cyber-attacks, but also our ability to predict, detect and respond to them," said Ambassador Sorin Ducaru, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges.

"The signing of this arrangement is an important milestone in the strengthened cyber defense cooperation with NATO, which was also identified as one of the five priorities under the EU Cyber defense Policy Framework," said Pedro Serrano, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service.

Cyber defense staff from the EU have participated for several years in NATO's flagship annual cyber defense exercise Cyber Coalition, according to NATO. Endit
