The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sunday launched a long-range rocket as planned, Yonhap news agency reported citing South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The rocket was fired at about 9:30 a.m. local time (0030 GMT) from the DPRK's Tongchang-ri launch station on its west coast, a South Korean military official was quoted as saying.

The South Korean military detected the rocket launch with its surveillance assets, continuing to track its trajectory.

The rocket reportedly succeeded in its first-stage separation. Enditem
