Malta's Exports up, trade deficit narrows

Xinhua, February 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Malta recorded positive results in 2015 in the external sector with a further narrowing of the trade deficit, according to the latest international trade figures published by the archipelago's National Statistics Office (NSO).

According to the NSO, provisional data for international trade show that the trade deficit in December stood at 149.5 million euros (166.8 million U.S. dollars), down by 82.9 million euros, when compared to the corresponding month in 2014.

Imports and exports decreased by 94.3 million euros and 11.4 million euros respectively.

The decrease in the value of imports was primarily due to mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials. Other decreases were recorded for machinery and transport equipment, miscellaneous manufactured articles, chemicals, and semi-manufactured goods. Enditem
