Refugee profiling to start at Greek-Macedonian border: Croatian minister

The agreement reached between countries along the Balkan route is a huge step forward on the refugee issue, Croatian Interior Minister Vlaho Orepic said on Thursday.

Police chiefs from Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia and Austria agreed that refugees would be identified and profiled on the Greek-Macedonia border starting Monday, he said.

"We made the proposal and will invest the most effort at first with our technology and personnel," he said.

Combined Slovenian, Croatian and Macedonian police forces are to conduct the profiling, he said, adding that Croatian police would be deployed to the Greek-Macedonian border on Monday.

The refugees who meet two criteria -- from war-affected countries as well as those who clearly define their final destination -- would be received, according to Orepic. Endit
