Austria's Vienna Opera Ball held under tight security

Xinhua, February 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

The 60th Vienna Opera Ball is to begin under tight security on Thursday evening with up to 300 police personnel stationed in and around the Vienna State Opera in the city centre.

Local media quoted police spokesperson Patrick Maierhofer as saying that visitors to the event would be subject to strict security measures upon entering the building, but declined to elaborate for tactical reasons.

It was revealed however that officers on duty will be both uniformed and plained-clothed. Police dogs will also be used to inspect both the premises and things taken inside the building, as well as on cars outside the building and in its parking garage.

Traffic in the inner-city ring road is also to be closed off, with cars of ball attendees to also come under strict inspection, Maierhofer said. Endit
