A stun grenade exploded near a bus station in Istanbul on Thursday, leaving two people injured, Turkish media reported.

The stun grenade was placed in a garbage can and two persons waiting at the bus station in the district of Sultanbeyli were wounded, the Sozcu daily said.

Bomb disposal experts were sent to the scene while the police started an extensive investigation, the report said.

In another incident in Gaziosmanpasa district, a suspicious package raised alarm, the Yenisafak daily reported.

According to eyewitnesses, two masked youths left a package, taped with yellow strap, at a bus station.

The city has been on a heightened alert since a suicide bomber blew himself up on Jan. 12 at the historic Sultanahmet Square, killing 11 German tourists. Endit
