Xinhua, February 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Car sales in France rose 3.5 percent in January from the same period a year earlier, the French car sales federation CCFA said Monday.

Last month, new car sales stood at 137,788 units, up from 133,170 vehicles sold in the same month in 2015, the federation said in its monthly report.

Sales of French brands grew slightly by 0.5 percent over the period due to a decline in Renault sales. Renault, France's second main car maker, sold 2.9 percent fewer new cars compared to a year ago.

PSA Peugeot Citroen group, France's biggest auto manufacturer saw its sales increase 3.2 percent in January after selling 42,610 units, according to the CCFA statement.

Last month, foreign brands registered a 7.3 percent increase with BMW and Volvo groups taking the lead among foreign competitors. Their sales jumped by 32.7 percent and 23.5 percent, respectively. Enditem
