Xinhua, February 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian man was shot dead on Monday after he allegedly tried to stab Israeli soldiers at an Israeli military checkpoint in northern West Bank, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed in a statement the death of 18-year-old Ahmad Toba in hospital after he was shot by Israeli forces at the entrance of Tulkarem city.

Sources told Xinhua that Toba was shot in the upper body parts with five bullets.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli army said a knife-wielding Palestinian was shot dead after he approached Israeli soldiers in northern West Bank.

An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said soldiers saw a suspect drawing a knife and attempting to stab them and they fired and killed him.

The slain Palestinian was earlier identified by Palestinian sources as 19-year-old Hassan Abed Altif, a resident of Jamal, a Palestinian village in the West Bank.

No Israelis were injured in the attempted attack. Endit
