Namibia stuns defending World Cup Champions

Xinhua, February 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Namibian Under 19 cricket squad stunned South Africa on Sunday at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox's Bazarin at the ongoing World Cup tournament.

The Namibian Under-19s 'underdogs' reached the quarter-finals with a shocking two wicket win over South Africa, who also had been struggling considering they lost their opening game against host, Bangladesh.

South Africa chose to bat first but were on the back foot right from the start of the game and only managed 136 runs losing 9 wickets in the process, which Namibia steadily beat as they only had a target of 137.

A commendable effort by Namibian batsman Lohan Louwrens, who scored an unbeaten 58, steered Namibia to their first win over a Test playing opposition in Youth One Day international (ODI) since they beat Sri Lanka Under-19s in the 2002 edition of the tournament. Endit
