Jordan announces project to expand refinery capacity

Xinhua, January 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan on Sunday announced a 2.2 billion U.S. dollars project to expand the production capacity of the country's sole refinery.

The project seeks to increase the production capacity of the refinery to 120,000 barrels per day, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ibrahim Seif said in a statement.

The minister said the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company is currently assessing technical offers submitted by several companies to implement the project.

He said the company is also in the process of looking into best means to finance the project, which he said will help improve the quality of fuel produced by the refinery.

Jordan, which imports about 97 percent of its energy needs annually, has recently announced that it will allow private sectors to import several types of fuel as currently only refinery is allowed to import fuel. Endit
