A Palestinian gunman on Sunday opened fire at an Israeli military checkpoint in the West Bank, wounding three soldiers, before being shot dead by military forces.
The incident, near the settlement of Beit El in the Ramallah district, was the latest in a deadly four-month-long surge of violence in the West Bank and Israel.
A spokesman for the Israeli emergency medical service said that two soldiers were seriously injured, and a third soldier sustained light injuries.
A military spokesperson said in a statement that the suspect drove his car near the checkpoint, opening fire at troops outside the post. "Forces on the scene responded to the attack and shot the assailant, resulting in his death," the statement read.
Earlier on Sunday, the police said they have arrested three Palestinian teen suspects who allegedly stabbed and lightly wounded a 17-year-old Israeli near East Jerusalem's Damascus Gate. Overnight, a 15-year-old from East Jerusalem's refugee camp of Shuafat turned himself in, and the police arrested overnight an 11-year-old child and a 16-year-old teen, both are from East Jerusalem.
The incident came amid a string of Palestinian uprising, including stabbing, car-ramming, and shooting attack, which so far claimed the lives of 25 Israelis, and a U.S. citizen.
In the same time, at least 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire. According to Israel, most of them were killed amid attempted attacks.
On Wednesday, a Palestinian stabbed and seriously injured an Israeli man outside a gas station restaurant in Pisgat Zeev, a settlement neighborhood in northern Jerusalem. The perpetrator was caught and arrested by police.
On Monday, a 24-year-old Israeli woman was stabbed to death outside a grocery store in the settlement of Beit Horon, north of Jerusalem. The attackers, a 22-year-old from the village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, north of Jerusalem, and a 17-year-old from the refugee camp of Qalandia were both shot dead on site by an Israeli security guard.
Israel has been accusing the Palestinian National Authority of "inciting" the violence while the Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli control of their lands. Endit
