Blast claims 2 lives in S. Afghanistan

At least two people, both civilians were killed as a blast rocked Kandahar city, the capital of Kandahar province 450 km south of Kabul on Sunday, a security official said.

"An explosive device went off in fourth police district of Kandahar city at around 03:00 p.m. local time today, killing two people, both civilians on the spot," the official told Xinhua but declined to be identified, saying authorized officials would brief the media after investigation.

Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban militants, has been scene of insurgency over the past several years. Enditem
