Spain's consumer prices fall by 0.3 pct in Jan.

Spain's consumer prices fell by 0.3 percent in January when compared with the same month of a year earlier, official data showed.

According to advanced data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published on Friday by Spain's statistical office (INE), on a month-to-month basis, prices fell by 1.9 percent, due mostly to the winter sales period when prices dropped significantly due to discounts.

The INE will confirm this advanced data on Feb. 12.

Spain's annual inflation rate stood at zero percent in 2015, it was negative almost throughout the year except for the months of June, July and December with rates of 0.1 percent, 0.01 percent and 0 percent respectively. Endit
