Albania's youth jobless rate hits 32.3 pct: report

Xinhua, January 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

A recent report by the European Commission(EC) estimates Albania's youth unemployment rate to be as high as 32.3 percent, the Albanian Daily News reported Thursday.

The report said the overall jobless rate in the country was 17.5 percent at the end of last year.

There are strong discrepancies between supply and demand in the labor market and it is especially difficult for Albania's youth to find jobs. The jobless rate among the country's youth rose by 1.9 percentage points in the final quarter of 2015, the report said.

The report highlights a slowdown in the opening of new jobs in the agricultural sector in the last quarter. Agriculture generates the greatest number of jobs of any industry in the country.

The report further said that there is no accurate data on agricultural employment as many employees in the sector are not registered. Endi
