Afghan forces seize Taliban militants' weapons cache

Xinhua, January 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Afghan security forces had recovered a weapons cache near the country's capital of Kabul, National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Thursday.

"The personnel of NDS have found a weapons and ammunition cache following a recent special operation in Jalriz district of (eastern) Wardak province," NDS, the country's national spy agency, said in a statement.

Some 61 rounds of heavy guns' shell, 15 rounds of mortar's shell, 45 rounds of BM 1 rocket, including its 36 fuses, and five kg explosive materials were among other items seized after the raid, the statement said.

The weapons belonged to the Taliban militant group but no suspect was captured during the operation conducted in the province, some 35 km west of Kabul, according to the statement.

The militants tried to use the discovered ammunition for attacking military and civilian vehicles along a main highway connecting Kabul to southern provinces, it noted.

The militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
