5 more bodies found after boat capsizes in Malaysian waters

Xinhua, January 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five more bodies were found on Wednesday in Malaysia after a boat carrying Indonesian illegal immigrants capsized in the waters off the state of Johor a day before, bringing the death toll to 18, local police said.

Thirteen bodies were found washed up on the beach Tuesday morning after strong winds and high waves overturned the boat.

According to the local police, five men's bodies were found on the beach, and the search and rescue operation continued as there could have been between 30 to 35 people on board before the vessel capsized.

The police said that some survivors were believed to have got onshore, and the remaining missing people have either drowned or hidden in nearby jungles to wait the human smugglers to take them to a safe destination. Enditem
