Iran kicked off massive naval drills in its southern waters on Wednesday, the Iranian navy commander said.

The exercises, code-named "Velayat 94," stretch over an area of around three million square kilometers from east of the strategic Strait of Hormuz to the northern parts of the Indian Ocean, according to Tasnim news agency. (Iran-Naval drills)

ANKARA -- Three soldiers were killed during clashes with alleged militants from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Wednesday, Turkish General Staff announced.

The clashes broke out in the Sur district of Diyarbakir which has been subjected to a round-the-clock curfew for almost two months. Snipers opened fire on security forces during intense clashes. (Turkey-PKK)

PARIS -- French President Francois Hollande accepted the resignation of his country's Justice Minister Christiane Taubira, the presidential office said on Wednesday.

Taubira's resignation came ahead of a parliamentary debate slated later on Wednesday over a constitutional reform that would allow people convicted of terrorism to be stripped of their French citizenship under certain circumstances. (France-Justice Minister-Resignation)

ATHENS -- Six people including a toddler were found dead on Wednesday off the shores of Kos island after a boat transferring refugees and migrants from Turkey to Greece sank, the Greek Coast Guard said.

Greek authorities were alerted by a survivor who made it to the island's shore in the Aegean Sea. He said that there were about ten people on board the small boat that capsized as winds of 4-5 on the Beaufort scale were blowing in the region. (Greece-Refugee) Endi
