China sets out plan for high-quality farmland

Xinhua, January 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

China will create at least 53 million hectares of high-quality farmland by 2020, according to a key policy document released on Wednesday.

The farmland will be highly productive to ensure stable yields, cultivated in an environmentally-friendly manner and able to withstand floods and droughts.

The farmland will only be used for agricultural production and protected against other purposes.

The document was released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, focusing on the work to speed up the modernization drive in rural areas with new concepts of development. Endite
