30,000 counterfeit sneakers seized in S China

Xinhua, January 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police in south China have seized more than 30,000 pairs of fake branded sneakers with a market price of nearly 4.5 million U.S. dollars.

In mid-December, police in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, raided a warehouse where they found shoes with counterfeit Adidas, Nike and other labels, and caught two suspects unloading the goods.

The police said they were tipped off in June 2015 that someone in Guangzhou was selling branded shoes on the Internet.

Their investigation found the goods were transported to Guangzhou from Fujian Province and were slated to be sent to buyers across the country.

The Chinese government has promised to crack down on counterfeiting in e-commerce. In November, it said the crime would be "effectively curbed" in three years through government supervision, self-regulation by the industry and public whistleblowing. Endi
