Van der Wiel doubtful for PSG's clash with Chelsea

Xinhua, January 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Dutch right-back Gregory van der Wiel could miss next month's Champions League clash of Paris Saint-Germain after surgery for appendicitis, said coach Laurent Blanc on Tuesday.

"It's not very serious, but unfortunately he will be out for a while. For a few weeks maybe," Blanc told a press conference in Paris ahead of Wednesday's French League Cup semifinal hosting first division rivals Toulouse.

The defender underwent surgery on Sunday after he scored a stunning goal in the Ligue 1 champions' 5-1 home win over Angers on Saturday.

PSG will meet the English Premier League side Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League in Parc des Princes on February 16, with the return leg at Stamford Bridge of London on March 9. Endit
