Rio Olympic Park hits 97% completion

Construction work at Rio de Janeiro's Barra Olympic Park, the main venue cluster for this year's Olympic Games, has hit 97% completion, organizers said on Tuesday.

The complex, which will will host 16 of the 42 Olympic sports and nine of the 23 Paralympic disciplines, was 95% finished in December.

Meanwhile the velodrome, which will host the track cycling test event from April 29 to May 1, is 80% ready, up from 76% in December.

At Deodoro Park, the second largest venue cluster, Youth Arena has made the fastest progress, reaching 80% completion compared with 75% in December.

The venue will host basketball, fencing and wheelchair fencing.

Carioca Arena 1 and the Olympic hockey center are 100% complete and have already staged successful test events. Endit
