Indian fighter jet on Tuesday shot down an unidentified balloon-like object over a town in the western state of Rajasthan near the Pakistan border, said local media reports.

A Sukhoi 30 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force shot down the object in Barmer district of Rajasthan after radar picked it, said Press Trust of India.

The report quoted defense sources as saying that the object is likely to be a meteorological balloon and further investigation is underway in Barmer, some 500 km from state capital Jaipur.
