German police arrested on Monday 15 suspects in a large-scale operation against drug traffickers in the area of the western German city of Cologne, German media reported.
According to German media Die Welt, eleven men and four women were arrested in the Cologne area, after 54 apartments have been searched since Monday morning.
With special forces involved, a total of about 400 police officials have participated in this action, a police spokesman was quoted as saying.
Some apartments were reportedly only searched for the purpose of drug trafficking.
The members of an extended family are suspected of selling heroin and cocaine in the "high double-digit kilogram range" and turned them into cash totalling several millions euros, said the report.
Among the 15 suspects who were wanted on arrest warrants, also includes the alleged head of the gang, according to German police.
The 44-year-old had controlled the lucrative trade since 2012 from a high-rise estate, the report said. Endit
