Indo-German researchers find 135-mln-year old dinnosaur fossils in western India

Xinhua, January 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

India and German palaeontologists claimed to have discovered fossils of a 135-million-year old herbivorous dinosaur in the western state of Gujarat's Kutch region.

The pieces of bone, possibly from the limb or hip and about two-feet-long, suggests that it may have been a 10-15 metre-long animal, The Hindu newspaper reported Monday.

"We will be moving fast to find out if this is a known species or a member of a new class," Dhiraj Kumar Pandey, an Indian member of the team, was quoted as saying.

According to researchers, the fossils could be among a handful of Jurassic-era dinosaur findings from India, the time when India and Madagascar were one landmass, the newspaper said.

"This may be related to the Camarasaurus family. We'll be sending this to Munich and hope to be able to formally publish and describe our finds within four months," Pandey said. Endit
