Security beefed up across India ahead of Republic Day

Adequate security measures have been put in place across India ahead of its 67th Republic Day celebrations, Indian officials said Monday.
Indian home minister Rajnath Singh reviewed security situation during a meeting with top officials from various security agencies.
Officials said the meeting was attended by India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and chiefs of intelligence agencies.
"In view of recent terror attacks in Paris and at Pathankot air base, stringent measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incident," an official said.
"Security has been tightened in the national capital, particularly around Rajpath and the parade route."
The visiting French President Francois Hollande is the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday.
Hollande arrived in India on Sunday on his three-day visit to India.
Media reports said multi layered security has been put in place and ground-to-air security have been made.
Policemen have erected barricades at all entry and exit points, besides sensitive locations.
The capital city has turned into a fortress ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.
India's official broadcaster, All India Radio, reported that around 40,000 security personnel have been deployed at key locations in Delhi, which include metro rail service, market places, railway stations and inter state bus terminals. Endit
