A nurse at the local health center in Canada's Sastatchewan province confirmed Friday afternoon that there were patients suffering from the school shooting in the La Loche Community School early Friday afternoon, according to CBC News report.

A student in La Loche said there were multiple shootings at the community school shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday.

"I ran outside the school. There was lots of screaming, there was about six, seven shots before I got outside. I believe there were more shots by the time I did get out," the student named Noel Desjarlais said at the school's facebook.

The community's fire chief said a boy with a gun was in custody.

Police were on the scene and said both the La Loche Community School and an elementary school in northern Saskatchewan were in lockdown. Saskatchewan's air ambulance system has also tweeted it has been dispatched to La Loche.

La Loche is a remote Dene community of about 3,000 people on the eastern shore of Lac La Loche in the northern boreal forest.

Police said the investigation was under way and parents and residents were told to stay away from the scene. Endit
