Xinhua, January 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's government on Friday released 101 political prisoners from various jails across the country under a directive of the President's Office.

The release came a head of the new parliament's first session on Feb. 1 in accordance with the results of the Nov. 8 general elections.

The release was in response to the call of social organizations and individuals, in consideration of stability, peace, national reconciliation and enabling all to participate in the political process, an official statement said.
