Bangladesh appoints new navy chief

The Bangladeshi government on Thursday appointed Rear Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed as the new chief of the country's naval staff.

Ahmed will replace the current chief, Admiral Farid Habib.

According to a gazette notification of the Ministry of Defense, the appointment will come into effect from Jan. 27, the day on which Admiral Farid habib will go on retirement.

Ahmed will continue office for three years from the date of his appointment, it said. Endit
