Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Mobile World Congress (MWC), the most important event of the mobile industry in the world, will generate 460 million euros (501 million U.S. dollars) this year, the GSM Association executive director John Hoffman said on Wednesday.

Hoffman said in a press conference that the event would generate 460 million euros in the Barcelona area and would create 13,000 temporary jobs.

The MWC, whose 2016 motto is 'Mobile is everything', will be held between Feb. 22 and 25 at the venue of Fira Gran Via and expects to bring together more than 95,000 people, breaking the 2015 record high of 93,000 attendants.

This year will see more than 2,100 exhibitors, more than 160 government delegations, and more than 4,000 journalists cover the event. It was also announced that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg would be attending for the third time in a row.

At the MWC, leading companies of the industry present their new products, company representatives meet each other and exchange ideas on technologies, connectivity and mobility.

Barcelona has been hosting the MWC for 10 years. In ten years, figures significantly changed: 51,000 people visited the event in 2006 compared to the 93,000 of 2015. Also, the number of exhibitors increased from 962 in 2006 to around 2,000 in 2015 while the number of journalists covering the event rose from 1,900 in 2006 to 4,000 in 2015. Endit
