Vietnamese communist party's 12th national congress wraps up preparatory session

The 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) convened a preparatory meeting in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Wednesday.

The CPV Central Committee (CPVCC)'s Politburo member and President Truong Tan Sang, on behalf of the Politburo and the congress presidium, presided over the preparatory session. During the session, delegates unanimously voted to adopt the working regulations, working agenda and election regulations at the 12th National Party Congress.

The congress elected 17 members of the Presidium of the 12th National Party Congress, including 16 CPVCC's Politburo members as well as Ha Thi Khiet, secretary of the CPVCC and head of the CPVCCs Commission for Mass Mobilization.

General Secretary of the 11th CPVCC Nguyen Phu Trong was elected as chairman of the Presidium, according to a press release of the congress.

The congress also elected a five-member Secretariat and the Delegate Eligibility Appraisal Board with 13 members.

The congress approved with unanimity the report verifying the eligibility of delegates to the 12th National Party Congress. Accordingly, all 1,510 delegates to the event were eligible to their positions.

The 12th National Party Congress will officially open on Thursday and is scheduled to last till Jan. 28. Endit
