Five S. African children suffocated to death in disused freezer

Xinhua, January 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five children have suffocated to death after being trapped inside a disused freezer in Kakamas, Northern Cape Province in South Africa, authorities said on Wednesday.

The bodies of the children were discovered Tuesday night by their grandmother, police spokesperson Dimakatso Mooi said.

The five, all said to be cousins aged between three and seven, choked to death, according to Mooi.

The kids allegedly used to play inside the old fridge outside their home but on Tuesday the freezer unfortunately locked them inside and they couldn't get out, Mooi said.

"The grandmother of the children found them all suffocated inside an old freezer in their yard. It's believed the freezer locked accidentally while the kids were playing inside,"he said.

Police investigations are under way. Enditem
