Liaoning score big win to take runners-up spot at CBA league

Xinhua, January 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Liaoning Hengrun beat Jiangsu Tongxi 130-102 at home on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to ten since Christmas and take the runners-up position at the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

"Liaoning is the top team, they deserve the title," said Jiangsu coach Xu Qiang.

Liaoning had a perfect beginning, as All-Star Lester Hudson made all his shots in the first quarter for 13 points to help the hosts lead Tognxi by 32-20.

Although the visitors run their three imports onto the court in the second quarter, they were still no way to control the cagers on home turf who run away to 69-43 at half time. And Liaoning even pushed Jiangsu to virtually abandon the game after three quarters when they even boasted of a comfortable gap of 38 points.

"We did our good job in defense, and we put Von Wafer under control. Our squad is tuning up good, and we hope to do our best as the next 3 away games are very important," said Liaoning coach Guo Shiqiang.

Hudson scored 34 points and Shavlik Randolph contributed 31 for Liaoning while Von Wafer was limited to 13 points for Jiangsu.

Prior to the 31st round games on Wednesday, Liaoning ranked only fourth and lagged two games behind league leaders Xinjiang. Endit
