UN chief urges more efforts for better understanding of Islam values

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met Tuesday with His Eminence the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, encouraging him to continue his efforts to enlighten and educate both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences about the true values of Islam.

The two discussed the importance of understanding and addressing root causes as part of the overall imperative of responding to violent extremism, while the Secretary-General recalled that he had presented his Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism to the General Assembly last Friday.

While in Geneva for a short visit, the UN Secretary-General on Tuesday also preside over the swearing-in ceremony of his newly-appointed Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mr. Robert Glasser.

Ban is scheduled to travel to Davos of Switzerland to attend the annual World Economic Forum On Wednesday. Endit
