2nd LD Writethru: 10 killed as blast hits check post in Pakistan's Peshawar

At least 10 people were killed and 20 others injured on Tuesday morning in a blast that hit a security check post in Pakistan's northwestern provincial capital of Peshawar, local media reported.

According to the reports, the incident took place at 10:20 a.m. (local time) when the blast hit the Levies check post in the Karkhano Market area located at the border of Peshawar district and Jamrud town of the country's restive northwestern Khyber Agency.

Security forces, police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the Hayatabad Medical Complex hospital of the city.

According to hospital sources, death toll may further rise as at least seven injured were in critical condition.

Most of the killed were security personnel including an officer, however several civilians including a child were also among the killed.

President of the Bara Press Club, Mehboob Shah Afridi, who was working for a local Urdu TV channel,was also killed in the blast.

Nature of the blast has not been determined yet, but most of the local media reports said it was a suicide attack.

Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the nearby areas.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Enditem
