Keiko Fujimori leads presidential polls in Peru

Xinhua, January 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Peruvian presidential candidate for the Popular Force (FP) Party Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, remained the favourite candidate of April's elections, according to a new poll published Thursday.

In the poll carried out by local firm CPI, Fujimori scored 32.1 percent of favorable ratings, 1 percent less from the last poll in December.

In the second place came Cesar Acuna from the Alliance for Progress with 15.2 percent, followed by Pedro Kuczynski, from Peruvians for Change (PPK), on 13.1 percent.

Former two-time president in 1985-1990 and 2006-2011, Alan Garcia won just 7.2 percent, according to the poll.

Fujimori's race for the presidency has been proved controversial, partly due to the deeply divided legacy her father left behind.

Alberto Fujimori is currently serving a lengthy prison term, after being found guilty of numerous crimes, including human rights violations, murder, kidnapping and embezzlement.

Fujimori has publicly defended her father's reforms and many people fear she would pardon her father if elected. Endi
