Al-Attiya wins Dakar Rally 11th stage

Defending champion Nasser Al-Attiya moved to second in the Dakar Rally standings after winning Thursday's 11th stage in Argentina.

The 45-year-old Qatari, driving for the All4 Racing Mini team, completed the 431km stretch from La Rioja to San Juan in four hours, 49 minutes and 16 seconds.

Nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb of France was second in his Peugeot, almost six minutes further back. Loeb's compatriot and teammate Stephane Peterhansel was third, more than eight minutes behind Al-Attiya.

Peterhansel, who has won the annual off-road race a record 11 times, leads the overall standings, 52 minutes ahead of Al-Attiya.

Toyota driver Giniel de Villiers of South Africa is third, an hour and 17 minutes behind Peterhansel.

Friday's penultimate stage was due to begin in San Juan and finish in Villa Carlos Paz, in Argentina's Cordoba province. Endit
