UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday condemned the deadly suicide bombing in Cameroon's Far North region, which killed at least 13 people.
The attack took place during the morning prayer at a mosque in Kouyape, a village in Cameroon's Far North, which was perpetrated by suspected Boko Haram elements.
"The Secretary-General reiterates his call for a comprehensive approach to preventing and countering the scourge of terrorism, and addressing its root causes, in compliance with international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law," said a statement released by Ban's spokesperson.
Ban also appealed to support the African Union's Donors Conference to be held on Feb. 1 to mobilize resources for the Multinational Joint Task Force, to combat the Boko Haram terrorist group.
The Nigeria-based Boko Haram has since 2009 waged a campaign of violence in Nigeria in an effort to establish an Islamic state. It has killed some 13,000 people and kidnapped hundreds, with surrounding countries such as Niger, Chad and Cameroon affected.
To combat the terrorist group, Nigeria and its neighbors set up the 8,700-strong regional force, which also gained support from the African Union. Enditem
