Body of captured man found in southern Mexico

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police have found the body of one of the 17 people captured in the municipality of Arcelia in Mexico's southern state of Guerrero, state attorney Javier Olea announced Wednesday.

The attorney told local media that the ministerial police located the man's body last week in the vicinity of Arcelia.

The identity of the man, around 50 years old, has not been revealed. However, Olea did say the man had made tortillas for a living.

The group of 17 people disappeared on Jan. 9 when an armed gang intercepted a convoy of vehicles that were headed to a wedding.

The incident occurred in the El Salitre area, where the attackers killed two people and took the rest.

The attackers allegedly belong to the self-proclaimed gang "Los Tequileros" ("The Tequila Makers"), according to Olea.

The army, marines and the federal and ministerial police are searching the municipality for those responsible of the crimes and disappearance.

All of the missing people have been confirmed as residents of Arcelia. Enditem
