NATO chief condemns terrorist attack in Istanbul

Xinhua, January 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Tuesday in Istanbul, calling it "brutal" in a statement released later of the day.

The NATO chief said of the suicide bombing in the heart of the Turkish city's tourist district: "There can be no justification for such attacks," and extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

"All NATO Allies stand united in the fight against all forms of terrorism," Stoltenberg added.

At least 10 people have so far been killed and 15 others wounded in an explosion that hit Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet Square, the Istanbul governor's office said.

Turkey has been a NATO member state since 1952. Endit
