An influential Muslim cleric jailed for terror activities in Indonesia filed an appeal on Tuesday against his 15-year prison term.
Abu Bakar Ba'asyir appeared in Cilacap State Court in Central Java, clarifying several data essential for further appeal process.
Upon his arrival in the court heavily guarded by police, hundreds of his supporters hailed him, local media reported.
The appeal session came after an approval from the South Jakarta Court, which handed down a 15-year imprisonment in 2011 to Ba'asyir.
"The South Jakarta Court ordered my client to attend the appeal session. We found it hard to present him to South Jakarta Court, so I asked the court to delegate the appeal session here," Achmad Michdan, one of Ba'asyir lawyer said, adding that the 78-year-old man was not in a good condition.
Ba'asyir has been jailed in high-security prison of Nusakambangan in Cilacap since October 2012. He was convicted of involvement in terror group's training camp in Aceh. Enditem
