2 Palestinians shot dead by Israeli forces in West Bank

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israeli security forces shot and killed two Palestinians during clashes in the West Bank, as the current of violence entered a fourth month.

A young Palestinian man was shot dead outside the Palestinian village of Beit Anun, near Hebron, a flashpoint city where many of the recent Palestinian attacks took place.

The Israeli army said the suspect was trying to stab an Israeli soldier at an army barrier east of Hebron. No Israeli injuries in the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, another Palestinian young man was killed by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in the town of Beit Jala, near the West bank city of Bethlehem, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The victim was 21-year-old Sorour Ahmed Sorour from the nearby Aida refugee camp. He was killed during clashes with an Israeli army force which stormed the town and clashed with dozens of Palestinian young men.

During the current wave of violence that has entered a fourth month, 23 Israelis and a U.S. citizen have died in frequent stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming attacks, while Israeli forces or armed citizens have also killed at least 154 Palestinians.

Israel has been accusing the Palestinian Authority of "inciting" the violence, while the Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli control of their lands. Endit
