Tokyo shares extends losses on oil prices decline

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo shares ended the trading Tuesday sharply lower with its benchmark Nikkei index tumbling over 2 percent as investors' sentiment here was weighed by declining crude oil prices and the yen's advance.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 479.00 points, or 2.71 percent, from Friday at 17,218.96, a roughly three-month low.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 45.37 points, or 3.13 percent, to 1,401.95.

Tokyo markets were closed Monday for a public holiday.

All issues in the main section lost ground on Tuesday with mining, oil and coal products, and shipping issues leading the decliners.

The turnover was about 2,973.1 billion yen (about 25.30 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
