Pakistan shares preliminary probe report into air base attack with India

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Pakistan has handed over to India the report of its preliminary probe into the recent terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base, sources said Tuesday.

"The report mentions about the raids carried out in Pakistan and the arrest of five suspects in the case, though their identities have not been revealed," the sources said.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also created a joint committee of his top government, military and intel officers to investigate the evidence handed over by India.

However, Pakistani officials have told their Indian counterparts that the mobile numbers dialled by the terrorists just before the massacre are not registered in Pakistan, the sources said.

Pakistan's action in the case came as the dates of the Foreign Secretary-level talks are nearing and India has so far said the meeting depends on Islamabad's action against the attack's mastermind.

Some six suspected Pakistani militants had carried out the terror attack on the air base, in which six Indian security forces personnel were killed and more than 50 others injured.

All the six terrorists allegedly belonging to Pakistani militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed -- which is said to have masterminded the attack -- were also eliminated by the Indian security forces.

The deadly attack on Jan. 2 came a week after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a surprise visit to Lahore on the 66th birthday of his Pakistani counterpart. Endit
