Foreign tourist spending in Spain rises by 6.4 pct in first 11 months of 2015

The amount of money spent by foreign tourists in Spain rose by 6.4 percent to a total of 63.657 billion euros (69.340 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 11 months of 2015 when compared with the same period of a year earlier, according to data released on Monday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
The total figure of spending is higher than that of the whole 2014 when foreign tourists had spent 63.094 billion euros in the country, which is the third most visited in the world.
Average spending per tourist stood at 1,063 euros from January to November, which meant a 1.4 percent increase when compared with a year earlier, while the average daily spending stood at 126 euros, 4.4 percent more than in the same period of 2014.
The British spent 13.412 billion euros in the first 11 months of the year which accounted for 16.7 percent of the total. They were followed by the Germans and the French who spent 9.2 billion euros and 6.7 billion euros respectively.
The northeastern region of Catalonia was where foreign tourists spent the most (14.877 billion euros), followed by the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
Spain is the second country where tourists spend most money and expects to break a record high in the number of international arrivals in 2015. Endit
