Former France midfielder Makelele named Monaco technical director

Xinhua, January 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

French first division soccer league side Monaco announced on Thursday that former France midfielder Claude Makelele has been named the new technical director of the team.

Makelele, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid star, had been the coach of Bastia but was sacked in 2014.

The 42-year-old former French international had previously been an assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain after retiring as a player at the capital club in May 2011.

Monaco said that Makelele's role "will be to assist the vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, in all sporting matters." Endit
